Smart Thermostats

Smart thermostats give homeowners more control over their heating and cooling energy use.

Benefits of Smart Thermostats

Thermostat controlled from mobile phone and electronic tablet

  • Energy savings – Smart thermostats have sensors to detect movement, and will automatically lower the temperature in the house to cut energy waste when you’re away.
  • Set temperature remotely – Control your heating and cooling system from anywhere through apps on your smartphone or tablet.
  • Track energy use – The apps built into the smart thermostat allow users to track how many hours their heating or cooling system has been in use.

Details & Resources

Smart thermostats may be self-installed or installed by a professional.

To take advantage of a smart thermostat, a house must have Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi allows the thermostat to get a home report using weather data, to update settings automatically, and to connect to smartphones or tablets.

To be eligible for our Smart Thermostat Rebate Program, the home must have an electric forced air furnace, air source heat pump, or ground source heat pump as its primary heating system. The rebate is available for existing and new construction.

Thermostats that control cooling-only systems or dual-fuel heating systems, such as a gas furnace and an electric heat pump, are not eligible for an incentive.
